In today's Meet the Team post, you'll meet Melanie Santiago, Vault's Director of Operations. Melanie has 12 years experience in the industry, with a focus on DOT regulations, industry standards and best practices. We had the opportunity to learn more about how Melanie ended up at Vault, and what she loves about working at Vault.
Hi Melanie, thanks for taking the time to chat with us and let our readers get to know a little more about you. Can you share more about your background with Vault?
I came to Vault in 2013 as a temporary employee when our Occupational Health department was just starting. I’m proud to be part of the origin story for the top-notch services we provide to our transportation industry clients.
After 10 years, how do you feel about Working with Vault today?
Vault has always focused on creating the best experience possible for our clients. Vault today, has a unique ability to make me feel excited to come to work. Everyone I work with in the organization is ready to solve problems and deliver premium service. I feel like I truly make a difference.
Do you have a favorite client story from all that time?
My favorite client stories are the clients that we’ve worked with for years who bring on new business with us due to our exceptional service and partnerships. Some DERs have moved to new organizations and asked their new employers to use us for this same reason. Best compliment ever.
What is your best advice for someone managing an employment screening program?
Get to know and listen to your employees and candidates. Always seek to get their feedback and act on it. Stay in touch with industry changes, whether regulatory, technological, or simply how hiring trends are changing.
What is your leadership philosophy?
Every problem creates an opportunity to learn and improve. If you look at leadership through that lens, you'll always be growing and improving.
How has working remote changed your lifestyle, changed Vault’s culture or changed the client experience we provide?
Working remotely has required me to be more creative when it comes to networking internally and externally. We’ve found many creative ways to build relationships with one another as an organization and in many ways I feel communication has improved since working remotely. It levels the field. I also like that our customers and vendors see us more. Video conferencing wasn’t very popular before we started working remotely.
What is something unique or interesting about you?
I have a passion for Paintball. Once upon a time I traveled throughout the Midwest to play scenario games with a squad, then I helped produce local games here in Green Bay, and now I’m an officer within my chapter and my role is to make the team aware of where the games are occurring and try to bring us together as much as possible since I can’t play as much as I’d like to. Unique and super fun!
